Happenstance

One instance inevitably leads to the next.
Last winter, we experienced several days of 80mph winds that reminded us that we still live on a prairie. The 6-foot fences that surround our garden, and the old wooden raised beds that were in the way of the fall, were destroyed. That incident lead to the installation of new, stronger fences designed to withstand high winds, and galvanized steel beds. While we worked on the lengthy repairs, we wondered how we could extend the growing season into colder months. A greenhouse now stands in the garden carefully positioned against a northern fence for protection. We’ve begun reading winter gardening books by growers from Maine and France. One thing leads to the next.
We’re applying the same lesson in our studios. A threading error while sleying a white warp led to the addition of one single, colored strand. That orange thread inspired a new line of work soon to be released. Accidents are now viewed as creative opportunities offering new ways of seeing…if we’re willing to pause and let go of control.
